After my name, my Instagram bio reads three things:  edin જ⁀➴ abdn   journo/head news editor @thegaudie   ex gb gymnast  The first two make reasonable sense. I’m a journalist and have my account open to the public to create more outreach for my writing related posts. I want people to know where I’m based for the same cause, in case it ever comes in handy professionally for publications who might be interested in my work. These two statements are pretty general, and…

    An Old Dress

I was looking for a dress for a birthday party on a Tuesday when I found my victim care card. A misjudged yank from the top shelf of my wardrobe brought down a flurry of paperwork I had hastily shoved into a shoebox – I’m prone to cramming my furniture full and closing the door.…

Another New Beginning

I’m excited to begin again with another blogosphere venture – that definitely has nothing to do with Squarespace’s exorbitant monthly plans. I’ve always had an issue with follow up but I’m determined to make this blog stick. WordPress is new and confusing, but as Gen Z member, I’m determined to figure it out and stay true to a new writing promise. I plan to take a three-pronged approach.

Firstly, I need to set up Bank Of Scotland notifications. I was blissfully ignorant to Squarespace’s subtractions from my balance last year, but no more! I plan to be painfully aware of the domain I’m paying for this time round.

Secondly, I will watch a painfully long and monotonous Youtube video about the ins and outs of Wordpress on a Personal (also known as the cheapest) payment plan. Most WP how-to articles practically scoff at the idea of anything below a Business plan, which at £32 a month, I plan to not subscribe to. If I can figure out how to work all these widgets and blocks, it is very possible I can do anything.

Thirdly, and slightly more related to actual writing, I need to figure out what work I want to keep for myself, and what I would like to publish elsewhere. At the end of the day, I want to be a journalist, so getting my work published in places like The Gaudie (the University of Aberdeen’s student newspaper) and other publications is of huge importance to me – but so is my personal writing. Last year, I blurred the line and started sending in Opine piece to The Gaudie that I had originally wanted to publish independently. I plan to keep on top of my own constant mental churning and make a conscious effort to identify where each idea goes. \saying that, I do plan to have a page dedicated to publishing my Gaudie work, as a sort of personal archive.

So, that is my three-pronged approach. Will it work? Who knows. Like the fork my plan resembles, I plan to spearhead a personal campaign of writing to hold myself accountable, and platform the ideas I’ve been holding onto for the last few months.

Here forking goes…
